Communications Workers of America Local 1051

Town of Westford

July 2006

HAPPY NEW FISCAL YEAR!

We have all received the letter from President Linda Teoli and Secretary/Treasurer Lisa Xavier re: their resignations from AT&T. The experience and knowledge they have contributed to CWA Westford has been invaluable and they will be greatly missed.

On a more positive note, AT&T has decided to remain open and we will not have the need to merge with another local.

David Silva (prior Vice President) has now become the President and looks forward to his new role for the CWA Local 1051 Westford members.

The election committee for the positions of Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer sent out election information. Nomination papers have been posted in each building. We strongly encourage anyone interested to get the nomination signatures and submit them to the election committee. The deadline for nomination signatures is July 26th.

On a more local note, CWA Steward Audrey Ducharme/Fire Alarm Operator has resigned from her position at the Fire Department. Audrey has worked for the Town for 12 years and has been an asset to our local; she has volunteered much of her own time to help maintain a fair and equitable contract for the Westford membership. Her skills and commitment will truly be missed.

Where are we?

We are now receiving the new rates that were negotiated with the Town as we enter into the 2nd year of our existing contract. This is always a good time of year to review your contract, know your rate and become familiar with the contract language and what it means to you.

Everyone should now have had the opportunity to review their job duties with his/her Supervisor and have a job description of their own. If this has not happened, please see your Supervisor and contact one of the local Stewards ASAP. A clearly defined job description is key to having employees properly classified.

Annual contract Stipends may now be processed (per the contract, all stipends are to be paid no later than Sept. 1st of each fiscal year). Stipends are to be processed for all CWA members within the department at one time and must be submitted as a separate batch.

Annual Longevity payments will be processed as soon as we receive a warrant date from the Human Resources/Finance departments. All CWA members eligible for longevity from all departments will be paid on the same warrant date. The longevity payments must be processed in a separate batch as well, (per the contract, this must be done no later than Oct. 1st of each fiscal year).

The next Labor/Management meeting will be held in August, if there are any issues you want added to the agenda, please contact one of the Stewards.

If you have any questions or need assistance with any of the above, please feel free to contact any one of the Stewards listed below:
